COLBY LANE ART

Color is Colby’s language, and abstract painting is the way she speaks what words often cannot express. Born in Alaska and raised in Winter Park, Florida, she discovered the transformative power of painting during college. What began as an intuitive, self-guided form of therapy—a quiet rebellion against the need for control and a soft place to land during seasons of grief—grew into a creative practice rooted in freedom, emotion, and movement.

From her late teens through her twenties, Colby worked in the world of art supplies, galleries, and custom framing—surrounded by both 2D and 3D works. Those years immersed her in the tactile, behind-the-scenes life of artists and curators, deepening her reverence for materials, presentation, and the craft of seeing. This experience sharpened her eye and shaped her sensibility, cultivating a deep appreciation for how artwork is both made and held.

Colby’s work is grounded in color—bold, layered, and sometimes unexpected. She never begins with a finished vision in mind. Instead, she follows the palette and the natural rhythm of her body, allowing the brush to lead and the canvas to respond. Her process is a kind of letting go—a conversation between feeling and form. She typically paints with Golden Artist Colors on canvas, paper, and Ampersand panels, drawn to their texture and the upstanding way they receive the paint.

She holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Central Florida with a minor in Fine Art, and had the privilege of studying studio art in the Cycladic Islands of Greece—a place that deepened her appreciation for raw beauty, natural light, and artistic freedom.

Colby believes everyone holds an artist within. For her, to create is to heal. As Picasso once said, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Her hope is that her work offers viewers both color and comfort—a reminder that expression is its own kind of grace.
